Coleman Project Space is pleased to showcase Meg Rahaim’s
exhibition, The Distance Home

Concerned with the intersection of imagination and technology in augmented seeing, this exhibition of current and recent work, traces the evolution of artistic inquiry from an initial fascination with mobile GPS tracking and forms of contemporary self-surveillance, to a consideration of the effects of the material constitution of the digital image on human agency.

Working across print, textile and digital projection, the artist takes the structure of the digital image as the starting point for understanding such effects. Rahaim tests the notions of materiality by blending manual and digital processes for image- making, scaling up the pixel to the visible mark or stitch, slowing the speed of fibre optics to the speed of hand, and equating coded software to written set of instructions. By emphasising the constructed aspect of the digital image-object, these artworks seek to address the ubiquity of invisible structures in the contemporary practice of
Everyday life.

Meg Rahaim (b.1980, USA) is an artist and academic living in London.
She received her MFA in 2005 from the University of Delaware, after which she worked as assistant Professor of Art at Mount St.Mary’s University Maryland USA.
She is currently in the final stage of practice-led PhD in Printmaking at the Royal College of Art. Her doctoral project, which includes the exhibited artworks, is entitled, Material-Digital Resistance: Toward a Tactics of Visibility.
